Description

Turnips form a taproot and dislike transplanting, so this comes as a young multi-seeded cell meant to go out early and stay undisturbed; set the plug in whole without splitting it, and know that direct sowing works just as well and is what most Alabama gardeners do. You get two crops from one planting, cutting outer greens along the way and pulling roots at two to three inches while they are still sweet and crisp. Fall plantings are the sweetest, since frost improves both roots and greens, while spring crops turn woody once May heat arrives. Shipped in a 4" Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

  • Feeding: A light nitrogen side-dressing three weeks after planting is enough; too much nitrogen gives greens instead of roots.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.
