Description

Summer squash is fast and generous but short-lived in Alabama, since squash vine borers and squash bugs usually take out spring plantings by early July. Plan a second planting in late July or early August for a clean fall crop, and check stems weekly for the sawdust-like frass that signals borers. Harvest fruit young at six to eight inches, water at the base rather than overhead to limit powdery mildew, and hand-pollinate early flowers if fruit is shriveling at the tip. Shipped in a 4" Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.
