Description

Onions bulb on day length, not on age, and this is the single most common onion failure in the South: a long-day variety bought from a national catalog will grow beautiful tops in Alabama and never form a bulb. Plant only short-day or intermediate-day types here, and get them in the ground during the winter so they build a big leaf frame before day length triggers bulbing in spring. Every leaf equals a bulb ring, so feed hard through February and March, then stop watering once necks soften and tops fall over. Shipped in a Bundle of 50 Sets, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.
