Description

Soak the flat, knobby corms overnight before planting, then set them just two inches deep in a well-drained bed where they can catch early sun under deciduous trees. Be aware that Anemone blanda needs a sustained winter chill it does not get in zone 8a, so it flowers beautifully the first spring and then thins out quickly; in the Deep South it is best treated as an annual and replanted each year rather than counted on to return. All parts of the corm are toxic if eaten, so keep them away from pets and children while planting. Shipped in a Pack of 10, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

Care Instructions
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Water: Moderate while growing, dry when dormant
  • Soil: Loose, gritty, well-drained soil with plenty of leaf mold and no standing winter wet.
  • Feeding: Scratch in a low-nitrogen bulb fertilizer at planting and again as the first shoots break ground.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.

How long it takes once it leaves

Traits

  • Good Cut FlowersStems long and stiff enough to arrange, and a vase life worth the cut. Cut in early morning while the stem is still full of water.
  • Deer ResistantDeer feed by scent first. Aromatic oils, fuzzy leaves and milky sap all read as "not food," so this gets browsed last — though a hungry herd in late winter will test anything.
