Mountain Laurel Shrub

Pot Size: 6" Starter Pot

Mountain laurel is a native evergreen of Appalachian slopes, prized for intricately marked flowers and handsome year-round foliage. Be honest with yourself about siting: although rated to zone 9, it genuinely struggles with Deep South heat, humidity, and heavy clay, and does best here in cool, shaded, sharply drained spots on north-facing slopes or under high pine canopy. Like azaleas, it carries grayanotoxins and is dangerous to pets and livestock. Shipped in a 6" Starter Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

  • Mature size: 5-10 ft tall, 5-10 ft wide
  • Grows best: Outdoors - Hardiness USDA 4-9
  • Pet safety: Toxic to pets if ingested - keep out of reach
  • Sourcing: Nursery-grown by Wade Greens; ships healthy from our Lineville, Alabama nursery to the lower 48 states.
  • Light: Part shade to filtered shade; protect from hot afternoon sun
  • Water: Regular; keep evenly moist with a cool root run
  • Soil: Acidic, cool, humus-rich, sharply drained soil; it will not tolerate wet or alkaline clay.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly with an acid-forming fertilizer after flowering; overfeeding does more harm than good.
