Description

Mountain laurel is a native evergreen of Appalachian slopes, prized for intricately marked flowers and handsome year-round foliage. Be honest with yourself about siting: although rated to zone 9, it genuinely struggles with Deep South heat, humidity, and heavy clay, and does best here in cool, shaded, sharply drained spots on north-facing slopes or under high pine canopy. Like azaleas, it carries grayanotoxins and is dangerous to pets and livestock. Shipped in a 6" Starter Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

  • Soil: Acidic, cool, humus-rich, sharply drained soil; it will not tolerate wet or alkaline clay.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly with an acid-forming fertilizer after flowering; overfeeding does more harm than good.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.
