Description

Carrots are a direct-sown crop that genuinely resents transplanting, so these are grown as a young multi-seeded cell meant to go out very early and be planted completely undisturbed with the root ball intact; sowing seed directly in the same bed is equally valid. Loosen the soil ten to twelve inches deep and remove rocks and clods, because any obstruction forks the root. Water steadily and thin each cluster to two or three seedlings so the roots have room to size up. Shipped in a 4" Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

  • Soil: Deep, loose, sandy, stone-free soil low in fresh manure with a pH of 6.0-6.8.
  • Feeding: Use a low-nitrogen, higher-potassium feed; too much nitrogen grows lush tops and hairy, forked roots.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.
