Description

Collards are the most forgiving green in the Deep South, taking summer heat better than kale or cabbage and standing through hard frost that only sweetens the leaves. Harvest the lower leaves and leave the growing tip, and a single plant produces for months rather than one cutting. Watch for cabbage worms and aphids in warm weather and treat with Bt or a strong spray of water. Shipped in a 4" Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

  • Soil: Fertile, well-drained loam with plenty of compost and a pH of 6.0-7.0.
  • Feeding: Side-dress with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer every three to four weeks to keep new leaves coming.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.
