Dig slender, oyster-flavored white roots for winter soups and gratins about four months after planting this old-fashioned, nearly forgotten Southern root crop.
Like parsnip and carrot, salsify forms a long taproot that hates being moved, so this is sold as a young multi-seeded cell to plant out early and undisturbed; slip the plug in whole and accept that a few roots may fork, or direct sow, which is equally reliable. It needs deeply worked, stone-free soil at least a foot deep, or the roots stub off and branch. Leave it in the ground through fall and winter frosts, digging as needed, because cold sweetens the flavor and the roots keep better in the soil than in the refrigerator. Shipped in a 4" Pot, well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

Shipping Policy
Everything at Wade Greens is grown and packed by hand at our farm and nursery in Lineville, Alabama. How an order travels depends on what's in it.
Where we ship
Plants, trees, bulbs, and merchandise ship anywhere in the lower 48 United States — houseplants, succulents, garden plants, saplings, flower bulbs, and apparel. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, P.O. boxes, or international addresses.
Fresh produce, microgreens, and cut flowers are available for local delivery and pickup in Alabama only. Because these items are perishable and picked at peak freshness, we do not ship them outside Alabama. You'll find our fresh items at local farmers markets and through local delivery and farm pickup.
Processing & handling
Orders are prepared fresh, so please allow 1–3 business days for us to pack and dispatch. Live plants and perishable items ship early in the week whenever possible to avoid sitting in transit over a weekend. You'll receive tracking by email as soon as your order is on its way.
Live plants & perishable items
Our plants are living things and are packed with care to travel safely. Minor leaf drop or a little travel stress is normal and typically resolves within a week or two of settling in. If a plant arrives damaged, email us within 48 hours of delivery with a photo and we'll make it right. Fresh produce, microgreens, and cut flowers are best enjoyed soon after delivery or pickup — please refrigerate on arrival.
Local delivery & pickup
Local Alabama customers can choose delivery or farm pickup at checkout on eligible items. We'll reach out to coordinate a time. Pickup is at our Lineville, Alabama farm.
