Description

Fuchsia is the plant for the shady spot nothing else will flower in. Slender stems carry pendant flowers shaped like small lanterns, usually a skirt of one color over a tube of another, and they keep coming as long as the plant stays cool and evenly watered. Upright types hold their shape in a pot on a covered porch; trailing types spill over the rim of a hanging basket. It resents hot afternoon sun more than anything else, so give it morning light and shade from noon on. Offered in 4-Inch Pot, shipped well-rooted from our Lineville, Alabama nursery.

Why we only ship Mondays and Tuesdays

A plant in a dark box is on a clock. Shipping early in the week means it reaches you before the weekend instead of sitting in a warehouse from Friday to Monday. It costs us a day or two of lead time and saves a lot of plants.

Practically: an order placed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or over the weekend goes out the following Monday. We'd rather tell you that now than let you find it in a tracking number.

How long it takes once it leaves

Traits

  • Attracts HummingbirdsTubular flowers, usually red or orange, holding nectar past the reach of most insects. Hummingbirds find them by sight, not scent.
  • Attracts PollinatorsOpen, shallow flowers with nectar a generalist bee can reach. These are the visitors that set fruit on everything else in the garden.
  • Long BloomingKeeps setting new buds across the season instead of one flush. Removing spent flowers keeps it making buds rather than seed.
  • Good for ContainersCompact, fibrous roots that tolerate a confined pot. Container soil dries several times faster than a bed, so check it more often than you think you need to.
  • Pet SafeNo compound known to be toxic to cats or dogs. Any plant eaten in volume can upset a stomach — this means no known toxin, not a licence to graze.
